The 6 psychological triggers scammers push to make you act before you think.

Scammers use social pressure to make people act before they have time to check a message or request.

Common tactics include:

1. URGENCY "Slots close at 5pm today." "Pay in the next 2 hours or we serve a warrant." Pause and verify the claim using a separate channel.

2. AUTHORITY "I'm calling from the bank's Head of Security." Check the caller's claim independently instead of relying on their title.

3. SCARCITY "Only a few slots left at this price." Take time to check whether the offer is real.

4. LIKING / FAMILIARITY "Hi Mom…" messages from new numbers. Call the person on a number you already have to check.

5. CONSISTENCY Someone may start with a small request and then ask for more.

6. RECIPROCITY "We just gave you a free airtime voucher — now can you click this link to confirm?"

Shortcut:

If a message or call makes you feel rushed or pressured, pause and verify it independently.
